Peony has only ever loved one woman. It was Jade's own sister Nephry. Sadly this relationship didn't work out too well. See, before Peony left Keterburg he made it a point to tell Nephry how he felt. He came to her balcony all heroic like hoping to show his ove for his special person. Yet it was not meant to be. Nephry told him that she couldn't return those feelings because of the class difference between them. Peony was going to be the ruler of a great nation and Nephry's social class was too low for her to ever be accepted as Peony's wife. So she rejected him and told him to move on. From a game clip it is apparent that Peony was never able to do so. He still tells Jade that he will never marry another woman because he could never love anyone as much as he loved her. Nephry on the otherhand had no problem. She was wed to a man named Osborne, this only further devastates Peony. From the hints of the game Nephry and Peony's relationship was one of two cases. Either she loved Peony but was able to accept the fact that their marriage would never be allowed because she was a commoner or that she never really loved him and let him down the best way she could because she still valued him as a friend.
